FSSAI registration is essential for food business operators before starting any food business in India. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India issues FSSAI registration to food business operators who comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and its regulations.
All traders, manufacturers, importers and exporters of food, food storage, Transport service providers etc. involved in food business must obtain FSSAI registration or license number, which must be printed on food packages along with the FSSAI logo.
FSSAI registration or license is issued for a validity period of 1 year to 5 years. Food business operators have to apply for FSSAI registration for renewal before its expiry to continue food business. Types of FSSAI Registration Renewal
There are three types of FSSAI renewal registration which are mentioned below:
- FSSAI Basic Registration Renewal – FSSAI Basic Registration Renewal is applicable for Food Business Operators whose food business annual turnover is less than Rs 12 lakh and they are required to apply for renewal in Form A.
- FSSAI State License Renewal – FSSAI State License Renewal is applicable for Food Business Operators whose food business annual turnover is more than Rs.12 Lakhs but less than Rs.20 Crores and they are required to apply for renewal in Form B.
- FSSAI Central License Renewal – FSSAI Central License Renewal is applicable for Food Business Operators whose food business annual turnover is more than Rs 20 Crore and they are required to apply for renewal in Form B.
Online Process for FSSAI Registration Renewal
To do FSSAI license or renewal registration online, an FBO needs to follow the following steps:
- Visit the FoSCoS website or portal and log in with FSSAI license or certificate number and password.
- Then click on the option of ‘Renewal’ available on the left side of the screen and select the option ‘Apply for renewal of license or registration’.
- A list of issued FSSAI registration or license will appear on the screen and after that, you click on the ‘Proceed’ button for renewal registration of FSSAI. FSSAI renewal registration is eligible and will be displayed 120 days prior to its expiry date.
- Form A or Form B will open where the Food Business Operator can edit the details that are editable on the form.
- After that upload, submit all the required documents and pay the applicable renewal fee and now a receipt is generated with a new 17-digit number.
Offline Process of FSSAI Renewal Registration
- Go to the concerned Food Safety Officer Incharge and obtain Form A or Form B as per the annual turnover.
- Applicants should fill Form A or Form B and attach a self-attested declaration and required documents.
- Then submit the filled form along with the renewal fee to the concerned authority.
- Once the renewal application is received, the Food Officer will verify and scrutinize the application for renewal registration.

- Food authorities can inspect food premises to check whether food business operators have disclosed and presented the correct information.
- When the inspection officers are satisfied with the compliance of the regulations by the Food Business Operators, they will pass the inspection report to the FSSAI officials.
- FSSAI authority will issue FSSAI renewal registration or license when they are satisfied that the applicant fulfills the requirements of the FSS Act.
- The FSSAI authorities should issue the FSSAI license within 60 days.
Documents Required for FSSAI Renewal Registration
Following are the required documents to be submitted for FSSAI Basic Registration:

- ID proof of Food Business Operators such as; PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Aadhaar Card, Passport etc.
- Two passport size photographs of the applicant.
- No Objection Certificate by Municipality or any other local authority.
- If the business premises is on rent, a rent agreement and no objection certificate from the owner.
The documents required for FSSAI State and Central Registration Renewal or License Renewal are given as under:
- ID proof and address proof of the applicant.
- List of directors or partners in case of a company or partnership firm with their full addresses.
- In case of partnership firm or company, partnership deed or memorandum and articles of association are submitted.
- A list of food categories is presented for manufacturers.
- Rent agreement and NOC from the landlord if the commercial premises is on rented land.
- No Objection Certificate from Municipality or any other local body.
- In case of Central License a certificate from the Ministry of Commerce will be submitted for 100% EOU.
- In case of Central License, IEC registration issued by DGFT has to be submitted.
- In case of Central license then analysis report of water used for food.
- Also deposits canceled checks.
The additional documents required for manufacturing and processing units are given below:
- Layout plan of the premises showing the operation and dimension-wise area of the unit.
- Complete list of food categories manufactured by the unit.
- Anatomy report of water used in food from an accredited public health laboratory.
- Letter of authorization with the name and address of the responsible person designated by the manufacturer.
