Introduction

 

Employee’s state insurance is an important measures of social security and health insurance in this country. The E.S.I act passed in 1948. ESI provides for certain cash and medical benefits to industrial employees in case of maternity, sickness and employment injury.

An Employment Provident Fund (i.e. EPF) is a retirement perk that is usable by all salaried employees.

Contribution to the PF account is mandatory for each employee earning a basic salary up to INR 6500

ESI stands for Employee State Insurance managed by the Employee State Insurance Corporation which is an autonomous body created by the law under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. This scheme is started by Indian workers.

Employee State Insurance Registration is applicable to all the companies with having more than 10 employees drawing a maximum monthly salary of Rs. 15000/-. This scheme, managed by Employee State Insurance Corporation offers several medical and monetary benefits to employees.

It is a 17- digit unique identification number allotted to each factory/establishment/ registered under this Act.

ESI is managed and governed by the rules and provisions issued by the ESIC Act 1948.

Benefits of PF & ESI Registration

 
Benefits to employees are as follows:
Medical benefits:

Full medical care is provided to all persons registered under ESI and their family members – from the day the person enters insurable employment. The benefit is given in kind by the state government through Model Hospitals run by ESIC (except in Delhi) without linking to employee’s wages and contributions.

Maternity benefits

This benefit is designed for Pregnant women to whom the benefits are payable up to 26 weeks. Maternity benefit for confinement/pregnancy is provided for three months, which is extendable by further one month on medical advice at the rate of full wage subject to contribution for 70 days in the preceding year.

Sickness benefits:

Sickness benefits are provided to the employee at the rate of 70% of his salary in case such sickness continued for exceeding 91 days in a year, and the same is also certified.

Funeral benefits:

Funeral expenses are provided in case of death of any employee covered under ESIC. The family of the deceased employee is entitled to an additional amount of Rs.10,000 towards funeral expenses.

Dependant’s benefits:

The unfortunate event of the demise of an employee during the employment, the dependents of the deceased will receive 90% of his/her monthly salary.

Disablement benefits:

Permanent disablement benefit is payable at the rate of 90% of wages in the form of a monthly payment, in case of permanent disablement based on the extent of loss of earning capacity as certified by a Medical Board. Disabled employees can get 90% of their monthly salaries as disablement benefits.

Rehabilitation allowance:

On monthly payment of Rs 10, the insured person and his family members continue to get medical treatment after disablement or retirement.

  • Healthy work-force.
  • Rebate under the income tax act on contribution deposited in the ESI account.

To be Submitted by Employer :
  • Latest building Tax/Property Tax receipt (Photocopy).
  • Month wise employment position, salary etc.
  • Copy of bank statement.
  • Registration Certificate or Licence issued under Shops and Establishment Acts or Factories Act.
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association/Partnership Deed/Trust Deed depending on the entity that is applying for registration.
  • Copy of PAN Card.
  • Evidence in support of the date of commencement of production/business/first sale (e.g. Copy of First Invoice).
  • Address Proof: Latest Rent receipt of the premises you are occupying indicating the capacity in which the premises are occupied, if applicable.
  • Latest building Tax/Property Tax receipt (Photocopy).

Registration Procedure of ESI Registration in India

 

Step 1

Apply online through new registration option available on the official website of ESIC esic.in.

    

Step 2

The applicant can sign up by creating user-id and password, which can be used further for return filing or other similar activities.

  

Step 3

A confirmation mail is sent via registered mail id and mobile number entered at the time of sign up.

   

Step 4

Login using the same user-id and password for completion of application form online. Complete all the details of the application and the one marked with Asterisk (*) is compulsorily provided.

Step 5

After the application is completed, finally submit it by paying online the prescribed advance contribution of six succeeding months

 

Step 6

The registration certificate is allotted with a 17 digit registration number by ESIC department once the application is completed.

Employees whose monthly incomes exceeding Rs. 21000 per month are not eligible for ESIC.
